Spent a week in California at the first of November, literally Nov 1, and was able to hang with my little brother for his bday...so groovy...checking out his life out there. There was a time when we lived down the street from each other in Brooklyn which was so divine. But he's carved out quite a life for himself in LA (he's an actor afterall!)...so for that i'm grateful. Plus, he's gotten really used to wearing flip flops all year round.

Third Annual!

A little behind here..but I wanted to post about our Third Annual Polaroid Corner at the Cobble Hill Kids Parade.

So much fun. You cannot believe how many people pour out of their apartments on to the streets that night. Is it possible we actually all fit back into the houses when its over?

We actually saw some familiar faces this year in our photo booth. And the costumes are quite spectacular. We didnt shoot digital images this year though..only Polaroids. Quite honestly, there's only so much time one can and should spend in a lifetime doing postwork...so we opted for Polaroids only...anyway, who really wants to WAIT for their picture??

Here was a test shot of Andrew with his Russian sauna hat on...that counts as a costume right?

i almost feel as if i should have a GPS following my dress along its path of life.

or maybe i should put one of those ASPCA implants into it, (i feel cold hearted calling it, 'it'! should i call it 'her'??)in case anyone harms her, mistreats her, or loses her, she will be tagged with a phone number and safely returned home

today (or oct 16th rather) i picked up my dress!

only to then take it straight to the seamstress, so really, i picked up my dress... for about 30 minutes.

it is quite funny though...i went to pick it up like i was getting my drycleaning.

and then i walk out on the street to get a cab, with this huge bag that screams,

"I'm most certainly NOT drycleaning. I'm a really big bag! I'm not a body. And i'm not a christmas tree...I'm a wedding dress! Hello!"

I was glad my seamstress could fit me in right away though because I really didnt feel like a. taking a cab home to brooklyn from the upper east side, or b. like bringing the big bag on the subway! it just seemed lonely to me..to take it on the subway. Shouldnt there be some parade following her down the street, with cymbals and trumpets and bodyguards?

Ok, anyway, (i'm exaggerating the bigness of it btw to freak andrew out in case he ever reads this blog..)

Anyway, no big deal. Picked up the dress. Dropped it off. End of story.

for sam's falafel!

i mean i really try not to stand in line for anything if i can help it.

i mean, its new york.

there's always another place to go.

but at sam's falafel, down near wall street, where everyone is in a rush..., and carts next to his are deserted, people make time to stand in line!

the grilled eggplant on top is to tasty.

and for 5 bucks you'll get more than you can finish even if you stuff yourself to the very top.

and honestly, after that, you're no good for work.

you may as well go home and take a nap.

sometimes...the day...the company...the glasses you are looking through...

are so gorgeous...you have to catch your breath. sometimes i wish i could bottle it up and send it out to people and places who are living in a world far from this. would the world be full of more peace and love if more people experienced this instead of that?

I feel like this is so timeless.

And encompasses so much of what I love about Italy.

A grill man with a white shirt, a black apron, and just a simple box that says "Sale"

(salt)

(He was also using a big bunch of thyme, dipping it into olive oil, and painting over the meat. I dont eat meat, but word was it was unbelievable!)

Was sad because I brought one to our recent trip to Europe...and alas, no polaroids!
So until I sort out the problems, I'm going to upload some favorite un-polaroids here and there.

discovered the truth on the phone with my brother

who was reading the LA times online headline news to me

"King of Pop is Dead"

we sat in silence on the phone

strange to feel a void in society with him gone

when i didnt know i felt a presence with him here

but i'm inspired by the impact that a person can have

one person

taking the world by surprise all the way until the end

of course his oddities are no secret

but there is no denying the pretty young thing

Lord of the Ring

So he popped the question with handmade rings in his pocket.

Flutter. Flutter.

Only problem was that they didnt fit.

But to be honest, it was such a treat!

We returned from our trip and went to the woodshop the very next morning.

We made a new ring together, from scratch.

Well, he actually MADE it, i made MOVIES of it!

It was so much fun and what a better project to work on together..than a symbol for the rest of our lives.

And to all my girls out there, yes, i couldnt help but feel a little like the end of the story changed...where it was actually Aidan in the end afterall...

We're Gettin married!!

Loved it before I knew it was his.

Loved it even more because he surprises in ways that are not surprising, and yet I'm always taken aback.

And a polaroid of a polaroid by Andre Kertesz.

Using the same camera he did, 30 years apart...i paid a small tribute.

sometimes on set, you get laughing about something as if your 4th grade teacher accidentally said hog instead of fog. it usually sets in about 4pm, and coincides with dilerium, chocolate, and the setting sun.

Of collecting instant moments

with dates and time

and blurbs

like footnotes to a book

that is filed under L for life

shoving them in shoeboxes

rediscovering them like the good ole days

when the possibility was there

again and again

each time we moved

what happens now?

do we stumble upon old harddrives and actually plug them in to reminisce?

is it an environmentally irresponsible statement

to say i want to PRINT MORE?

do we need to give ourselves

and our kids

and blah blah blah

the chance

to find the shoebox

full of pinpricks in the clock

Blowing Bubbles

POP its gone

Stalking prey

One swipe

I miss

I'm hungry

Very hungry

Like a bad meal on an empty stomach

Did i wait too long?

Was i too impulsive?

There are no retakes

There are no do-overs

So this is the new home for polaroids
